The Allegations Against Zack Scrivner

Three felony counts of child sexual abuse and two felony counts of possessing assault weapons were filed by the California Department of Justice.

According to reports, one of Zack Scrivner’s four children stabbed him in the upper torso to protect another child from being sexually assaulted. When detectives were called, they seized close to 30 firearms in addition to psychedelic mushrooms from Scrivner’s Tehachapi home. In the CA DOJ’s complaint against Zack Scrivner, he allegedly inappropriately touched one of his children while in bed with them.

Child Abuse in the Family: The Facts

The National Children’s Alliance indicates that most child sexual abuse cases happen as a result of the misconduct of a parent. A 2022 report found that 434,000 perpetrators harmed children either by abuse or neglect, and in 76% of those cases, the children were victimized by a parent or legal guardian.

All socioeconomic groups are vulnerable to child sexual abuse. All genders, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities, religions, and communities can have instances of child sexual abuse. Girls and younger children are the most vulnerable to being abused.

Child sexual abuse is traumatic and causes a great deal of loss and despair for victims. Victims who are abused as children lose their sense of safety, and they have a hard time trusting, which adversely affects their ability to have meaningful relationships. When the emotional harm of abuse is left untreated, other poor life outcomes typically follow. Most often, victims of child sexual abuse who were not actively seeking treatment develop mental health problems, experience behavioral changes, engage in high-risk behaviors, abuse alcohol and/or illicit drugs, and have chronic and debilitating physical health issues that can impair them throughout their entire life.
