Widespread Child Sexual Abuse Allegations at International Megachurch
Widespread child sexual abuse allegations investigated at La Luz del Mundo. A federal indictment has been issued for leaders of the La Luz del Mundo Mexican (LLDM) megachurch for allegations of systematic sexual abuse that has gone on for many decades. The church has a worldwide following of around 5 million, with Naasón Joaquín García, considered the “apostle” of Jesus Christ. Currently, García is serving a prison sentence in California after he was convicted of sexually assaulting young church followers. The indictment includes García and five other church leaders. According to the indictment, the defendants used LLDM as a means to traffic women and children and to produce child pornography as well as commit financial crimes.

Allegations of Decades of Widespread Child Sexual Abuse
According to prosecutors, García was the head of a close group of co-conspirators who facilitated his child sexual abuse activities and who produced child sexual abuse material for García’s personal pleasure. Reports indicate that García would select young people to abuse, claiming that the illicit behavior was a part of church activities. He taught congregants from birth that it was their duty to obey him and his sexual desires or else they would be eternally damned. García employed fear tactics to prevent his victims from rejecting him or reporting him.
The investigation into the alleged widespread child sexual abuse at the megachurch lasted one year and was conducted across the country, including the accounts of many dozens of young women and children victims. Investigators uncovered a disturbing pattern where García followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, both considered church “apostles”, and who sexually abused congregants. The church leaders would manipulate young women by telling them they could earn blessings if they engaged in sexual activities. Some church “lieutenants” would keep a pipeline of young people for church leaders to ensure there was always someone available and ready for sexual abuse.
News outlets have made requests for comments, but the church has not responded.
