AI Child Sexual Abuse Content Could be Concerning

ai child sexual abuse content

Artificial intelligence (AI) seems to be everywhere these days and is likely to become even more common. AI uses computers to generate content. People already use the Internet for the distribution of child sexual abuse images, and the advent of AI will only make the problem worse. A report put out by the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) finds that AI is already being used at an alarming rate to spread child sexual abuse content online. The watchdog organization warns that something needs to be done immediately to combat the problem.

If your child was the victim of child sexual abuse or exploitation, you may reach out to the California child sexual abuse attorney at Beck Law today.

AI Child Sexual Abuse Content

Perpetrators are already using AI to create child abuse images. This is happening across the world and is a global problem that needs to be taken seriously. The images may also be generated by children themselves as ways to harm each other. Some cell phone apps are available that create naked photos from photos of kids who are fully clothed. In addition, perpetrators take existing images of children they find online on places such as Facebook and manipulate them through AI to turn them into sexual content, which they then distribute.

This AI-generated child sexual abuse content could be damaging to children, and at the same time, it is being used in ways to groom new victims or coerce them into providing their own images. Some of the images these abusers use may be years old. The result is an image that is sexually explicit and utilizes a real child’s face along with an AI-generated body.

Internet Watch Foundation

The Internet Watch Foundation is a non-profit organization based in the UK. Their analysts have been reviewing data and providing a report based on their findings. The group wants to distribute the information to governmental and police agencies in an attempt to educate them as to the severity of the problem. The goal of the IWF is to prevent former child sexual abuse victims from facing additional or continued abuse by the illegal distribution of explicit content. Since the content may have already been online, it is possible that it will continue to be passed around the Internet for years to come.

Taking Control of AI Content

The IWF report is a way to begin the discussion regarding how to better govern and control the use of AI child sexual abuse content. According to Dan Sexton, the chief technology officer of IWF, the problem is already occurring, and steps must be taken to address it now. The IWF is strongly urging governments to strengthen their laws, specifically regarding AI.

In addition, technology providers need to improve the use of their products to block potential child sexual abuse. However, there are a variety of tools currently available that do not contain mechanisms that stop the use of nude child imagery. The IWF hopes to communicate the serious issues of potential child sexual abuse through AI, so others will take steps to stop it. Parents, educators, police, governmental agencies, and others must learn about the serious issue so they can help put laws in place to oversee and stop it.

If you are a victim of child sexual abuse, you may still have time to file a claim against your abuser. You may be owed compensation for your damages. To learn more, contact Beck Law at (707) 576-7175 to schedule a confidential consultation to discuss the matter.
