Traveling Nurse Travis Harris Met Underage Girl Online

According to online news reports, the 39-year-old man met the 16-year-old victim online. The man carried on a relationship with the girl for some time. When the girl’s parents learned of the “relationship,” they immediately went to the police. The local police, along with the FBI and Homeland Security, were involved in the investigation that ultimately led to the man’s arrest. They reported the incident to the California Board of Registered Nursing. The chief of police stated that they are concerned that there could likely be more victims out there.

What is a Traveling Nurse?

A traveling nurse is a registered nurse who is contracted for short periods of time at hospitals and other medical facilities. Generally, hospitals and medical facilities utilize travel nurses to fill in for nurses who are on vacation or to fill temporary jobs until they find a permanent replacement. A travel nurse is in a position of confidence and respect. People rely on nurses and other medical professionals to provide care as well as necessary medical advice. When someone in a position such as this abuses a child, it is especially egregious.

Are There More Victims of Traveling Nurse Travis Harris?

Law enforcement, in this case, continues to investigate. They believe that there could be more victims of child sexual abuse. Since the man previously lived in Ohio, the police are working with officials there to try to locate additional victims. The man is charged with a number of sex crimes, including molestation, as well as creating child pornography, being in possession of child pornography, and having an unregistered firearm. The police believe that the man was likely involved in additional child sexual abuse crimes before recently coming to California.

Reporting Child Sexual Abuse

In this case, the parents went to the police to report the abuse as soon as they learned of it. Often, victims of child sexual abuse are afraid to report it, or they may be groomed so they feel as if the abuse is acceptable. For these and other reasons, a person might not report the abuse until much later. The law allows you time to report incidences of child sexual abuse such as those alleged by traveling nurse Travis Harris. There are various time limits to file a report, depending on the specific crime and when it occurred.

Victims of child sexual abuse often have long roads to recovery from the mental and psychological damage that occurred. The victim may file a civil lawsuit against the perpetrator as well as others if they were aware of the abuse but did not report it. Often, once a victim comes forward, other victims also come forward to report sexual abuse.

While the incident may have happened long ago, you may still be entitled to damages from the abuser.
